About A Hazelhurst Christmas
What started out as just putting lights on the house for Christmas turned into something much more, a way to give back to the community and bring joy to others during the holiday season. It started when I saw the video, you know the video that was over the internet back in 2005, the one where Carson Williams had his lights on his house choreographed to Trans Siberian Orchestras Wizards of Winter, the one that became a Miller light commercial. Well after I saw it I new I had to do that, I’m an electrician and I love computers so of course I had to be able to do that. Well I did some research and well my initial findings showed that equipment to do that was way out of my budget. So back to the Internet I went and I came across a company called D-Light and they sold the controllers needed in kit form so after a order of 12 of there 8 channels controller boards I was busy soldering. Of course that was just the beginning, I had to order the software to make the controllers work and then learn to program that software. Well after hundreds of hours of work I debuted A Hazelhurst Christmas in 2006 with 6 songs and added 3 more as the season went on. Well the response was overwhelming we had hundreds of visitors and received an award from the city. More important was the wonderful comments I got from people I did not even know who told me how much joy my little light show had brought to them. In 2008 we decided to help out a little more by having a non perishable food drive for Gleaners food bank. What does the future hold? Well I don't know but as long as we can give a little back to the community with the show we will keep lighting the lights during the holiday season.
